Abstract

We demonstrate a modularity bug in the interface system of Java 8 on the practical example of a textbook design of a modular interface for vector spaces. Our example originates in our teaching of modular object-oriented design in Java 8 to undergraduate students, simply following standard programming practices and mathematical denitions. The bug shows up as a compilation error and should be xed with a language extension due to the importance of best practices (design delity).

Abstract

Previous studies reported that mental health and emotion regulation strategies deteriorated in the refugee sample. The main goal of the study was to analyze the mediation effect of emotion regulation strategies as expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal between resilience to helplessness – depression and flourishing. The second aim was to determine to what extent emotion regulation strategies and resilience to helplessness-depression predicted flourishing. Forty-seven Syrian refugees, aged 18-64, who were settled in Istanbul fulfilled the coping competence questionnaire (CCQ), the flourishing scale, and the emotion regulation questionnaire (ERQ). The serial mediation analysis indicated that expressive suppression and cognitive reappraisal had a significant indirect mediating effect between resilience to helplessness-depression and flourishing. Multiple regression analysis showed that expressive suppression was a negative predictor of flourishing. However, both cognitive reappraisal and resilience to helplessness – depression were positive predictors of flourishing. Moreover, ERQ, flourishing, and CCQ scales showed good internal reliability consistency scores in the refugee group. The study suggested that improvement in emotion regulation strategies may be a helpful strategy in the therapeutic setting.

Abstract

Reservoirs have a very important function in providing multi-sector water requirements. In the future, reservoirs not only serve to store and available water can also be used as disaster mitigation instruments. The completeness of hydrological measurements in reservoirs can be expanded more widely for climate change mitigation. The reliability of the reservoir capacity varies greatly depending on the El-Nino character that occurs among them El-Nino is weak, moderate, strong and very strong. The El-Nino characteristic is very influential on the period of water availability, the increase of evaporation capacity and decrease of reservoir capacity. Analysis of the reliability of the reservoir volume due to El-Nino using the Weibull equation. The deficit reservoir was calculated using the concept of water balance in the reservoir that is the relationship between inflow, outflow, and change of storage at the same time. Based on the results of the analysis showed that the evaporation increase and the decrease of reservoir capacity had a different pattern that is when the evaporation capacity started to increase at the same time the reservoir capacity decreased significantly. The correlation coefficient between evaporation capacity increase and decrease of reservoir water capacity are consecutively –0.828, –0.636, and –0.777 for El- Nino weak, moderate and very strong respectively. At the reservoir capacity reliability of 50% reservoir has a significant deficit. When weak El-Nino the deficit is 2.30∙106 m3, moderate: 6.58∙106 m3, and very strong 8.85∙106 m3.

Abstract

Soybean ( Glycine max (L.) Merrill.) yielding potential depends on environmental conditions (precipitation, temperature, soil). The aim of the work was to evaluate stability of yielding (and other traits) of three soybean cultivars (Abelina, SG Anser, Merlin) grown under the climatic conditions of central-eastern Poland. The studied material was obtain in a field experiment conducted at Łączka (52°15' N, 21°95' E) during the growing seasons of 2017–2019. Trait stability was determined based on Shukla’s genotype stability variance and Wricke’s ecovalence describing the genotype-by-environment interaction. For all the examined parameters, there were found significant differences between successive growing seasons, cultivars, and cultivars within study years. The greatest influence of environmental conditions (years) was determined for plant height (64%) and first pod height (54.2%). Stability parameters indicated that cv. Abelina was the most stable in terms of yielding, 1000 seed weight, seed number per pod and average seed number per pod, cv. SG Anser being the least stable in this respect

Abstract

In this paper study results of selected production methods for agricultural biogas are shown and technical and technological aspects of these methods are described for monosubstrate bioreactors. Based on the available literature, modelling of mixing in bioreactors using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) was is demonstrated. As part of the research, the numerical simulation method was used with a tool that contains CFD codes. The model k-ε is used to simulate the mean flow characteristics under turbulent flow conditions. This is a two-equation model that gives a general description of turbulence. The work presents the results of numerical studies that make it possible to understand the characteristics of fluid flow in the adhesive bed used for the production of agricultural biogas. The tests showed that in the core of the adhesive bed there is a flow of 0.19 m∙s –1, while in the outer part of the bed there is a flow in the range 0.01–0.02 m∙s –1. Taking into account the substrate inflow of 0.17 m∙s –1 (in the upper part of the fermentor), it was observed that the Klinkenberg effect for autocyclic movement (from bottom to top) takes place. The novelty in the article is the observation of the dominant flow in the core of the bed and the autocyclic flow in the opposite direction in the peripheral areas of the adhesive bed.

Abstract

Determining the dependence of phase difference modulations between light pulses in a modified Mach-Zehnder interferometer was used to develop an optical system coding the information and working as an eavesdropping sensor for an optical fibre information exchange system. The basic challenge in the system development is to maintain stable operation in changing environmental conditions, as well as to ensure optimal parameters of the phase modulator. The system was tested for various many-kilometer long transmission lines of single-mode fibres. The research was focused on achieving the normative Bit Error Rate for the system in the 100 Mbit/s range (STM-1). Such a system can be used in commercial applications for the code key secure transmission in the physical layer of the link.

Abstract

The insecticidal efficacy of Gmelina arborea L. product extracts was assayed for suitability in controlling the legume pod borer Maruca vitrata Fab. (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) and the pod sucking bug Clavigralla tomentosicollis Stäl (Hemiptera: Coreidae) on cowpea. Field studies conducted in 1999 and 2000 cropping seasons at the research farm of the Institute for Agricultural Research, Samaru showed that extract of Gmelina arborea fruit at 10% (w/v) caused impressive reduction ofboth pests and protected the pods from serious damage. Grain yield was higher in the fruit extract treated plants compared to the leaf, bark treatments and the untreated control. However, all the Gmelina products’ extracts were superior (p < 0.05) to the untreated control but was not better than the synthetic insecticide (Sherpa Plus) used in all the assessments made. This study is the first reported case ofthe potential of Gmelina arborea products’ extracts for control of Maruca pod borer larvae and pod sucking bug on field cowpea. This plant could add to the pool of herbal landraces already found to be insecticidal to insect pests of tropical crops if explored and exploited for use by limited resource farmers in tropical countries.
