Abstract

Influence of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense (E.F. Smith) Snyder and Hansen on 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG) production in the rhizosphere of banana cultivar Rasthali by Pseudomonas fluorescens was investigated. The purified extracts of Pfm strain of P. fluorescens isolated from banana rhizosphere inhibited the growth and spore germination of F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense under laboratory conditions. DAPG extracted from the cultures of the strain was observed as distinct spots in thin layer chromatographic plates at Rf value of 0.88. The extracts of soil inoculated with P. fluorescens and challenge inoculated with F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense eluted at retention time ranges from 20.00 min to 21.30 min. The quantity of DPAG production was less in the extracts of soil inoculated with P. fluorescens and challenge inoculated with F. oxysporum f. sp. cubense as compared to P. fluorescens alone inoculated soil. The talc formulation of Pfm strain also reduced vascular discolouration due to the pathogen in banana plants when inoculated at 15 g/plant.

Abstract

This article presents an analysis of the Polish translation of the first poem from the series of six poems Звезда Маир (1898) by Fiodor Sologub and here in the translation by Witold Dąbrowski, Gwiazda Mair. Our task is to analyze the translation and trace to what extent the translator reflected the specificity of the lyrical situation presented in the original, and to what extent its image in the translation has changed. In addition, the focus was on translating the author’s proper names, reflecting Sologub’s creation of paradise, in order to show how specific translation activities affect the recipient’s perception of the lyrical situation shown in the poem. The rhythmic organization of the poem and the arrangement of rhymes in the original and in translation were also examined. It was shown to what extent the translators managed to reflect the hidden meanings and meaning‐creating symbols, so important for this Russian symbolist.

Abstract

The list of potential hazards related to concrete elements and structures prestressed with the use of unbonded tendons, including the flat slabs, is long and fairly well recognized. In addition to the standard accidental events this list includes: mishandling during construction, small fire, local corrosion, loss of bond at the anchorage, second order effects, brittle fracture of elements, etc. Despite of these hazards related to unbonded post-tensioning, this type of structures are extensively promoted and used in practice thanks to the possibility of the large span floors and innovative character of this technology. The paper presents a proposal for the application of risk analysis to assess the robustness of structures with flat slabs prestressed with unbonded tendons. The adoption of variables that determine risk and robustness as fuzzy numbers assigned to linguistic variables are proposed. Numerical example is presented to demonstrate risk and robustness assessment of building structure with unbonded posttensioned slabs supported directly on columns.

Abstract

Isolated and fragmented jaws, a single basioccipitale and vertebrae of the Gadiformes, indeterminate family and genus, are described from Eocene sediments of the La Meseta Formation, Seymour Island, Antarctic Peninsula. Based on the dentition and other characters of both jaws they are assigned an informal name of „Mesetaichthys". The remaining isolated bones belong probably to the same form.

Abstract

The Goesvatnet is a lake whose water is dammed by the Gås Glacier. It undergoes periodic subglacial and inglacial drainage, usually in winter. When fully filled it is about 60 m deep and has the surface of about 1 km2. An attempt was made to explain the mechanism of the drainage of the lake. Changes in the situation and range of the lake over the period of 81 years were investigated. The magnitude and character of the deglaciation of the front part of the Gås Glacier were determined. A strict relationship was found between the drainage of the lake and the presence of naled ice in the extramarginal outwash (Gåshamnoyra).
