Abstract

To obtain anti-corrosive thermo-diffusion zinc coatings, the authors use highly effective zinc saturating mixtures. This technology makes it possible to obtain coatings with a high zinc content in the δ-phase as well as a zinc-rich phase of FeZn13 (ζ-phase) on the coating surface. As a result of long-term studies into the corrosion properties of thermo-diffusion zinc (TDZ) coatings conducted by the authors, a number of features of their corrosive behavior have been established. The corrosion rate of those coatings in desalted and chloride-containing media is lower than those of galvanic or hot-dip zinc coatings. The corrosion behavior depends on the content of zinc on the surface and the texture features of the coating. The results showed that on the surface of thermo-diffusion coatings in the corrosion on media containing chloride ions, zinc hydroxychloride (simonkolleite – Zn5Cl2[OH]8[H2O]) has been formed. Compared to coatings obtained by other methods, the rate of simonkolleite formation was higher on TDZ coatings, which might have a positive effect on their resistance in aggressive atmospheres.

Abstract

API X70 steel requires high strength and toughness for safety in extreme environments like high pressure and low temperature. Submerged Arc Welding (SAW ) is effective for manufacturing thick steel pipes. However, the welding heat input during SAW alters the microstructure and mechanical properties of the heat affected zone (HAZ). Therefore, investigating the correlation between microstructure and mechanical properties in welded X70 pipes is important to address potential degradation of HAZ and weld metal (WM). In this study, post weld heat treatment (PWHT) was performed to improve mechanical properties of HAZ and WM and to reduce residual stress caused by the welding process. We performed PWHT at 640°C for 15 hours and followed by air cooling. After heat treatment, we observed the microstructure through OM and SEM analysis, and investigated the mechanical properties through tensile test, hardness test, and Charpy impact test.

Abstract

The paper presents the idea to improve the performance of thin film photovoltaic cells by a light capture enhancement through the introduction of down shifting energy converters. Luminescent down shifting layers convert high-energy photons (UV light) into low-energy ones (visible light), which are more efficient in a photovoltaic conversion. For this purpose, the application of a thin layer composed of zinc oxide (ZnO) nanoparticles deposited onto a thin film solar cell is proposed. The paper presents both experimental and theoretical results of this approach. Conducted investigations include an analysis of ZnO nanoparticle layers, deposited in two independent technology methods. The results showed that ZnO nanoparticles have a great potential of application as down converting layers and can be implemented to improve the efficiency of photovoltaic cells, especially in the field of thin film PV structures. The proposed new deposition method can potentially be used in some industrial photovoltaic applications.

Abstract

Necessary and sufficient conditions for robust stability of the positive discrete-time interval system with time-delays are established.

It is shown that this system is robustly stable if and only if one well de?ned positive discrete-time system with time-delays is asymptotically stable. The considerations are illustrated by numerical example.
