Abstract

In the paper the influence of moisture content of wood on the heat losses and thermal efficiency of a boiler is analysed. The moisture content of wood has a negative effect, especially on flue gas loss. The mathematical dependence of the thermal efficiency of a boiler is presented for the following boundary conditions: the moisture content of wood 10–60%, range of temperatures of emitted flue gases from the boiler into the atmosphere 120–200 C, the emissions meeting the emission standards: carbon monoxide 250 mgm-3, fly ash 50 mgm-3and the heat power range 30–100%.

Abstract

The paper analyzes the influence of humidity of combusted wood biomass on the flue gas losses. A mathematical relation between flue gas losses of the boiler on wood biomass humidity is presented as well as temperature of flue gas emitted from the boiler into the atmosphere. The limits of model application for the humidity of wood biomass falls into the interval 10–60% whereas the range of temperatures of flue gases emitted from the boiler to the atmosphere is 120–200°C. The influence of the humidity of wood biomass has an adverse effect on increasing the extent of the boiler flue gas losses and thus inefficiency of the heat production. The increase of the wood biomass humidity from the value of 10% to 60% with the outlet temperature of flue gases from the boiler 120°C causes an increase in flue gas loss of the boiler from the value 8.37% to 12.43%, similarly the increase of flue gas loss by 200°C from 15.19% to 22.55%, or the increase of the flue gas loss by 7.36%.

Abstract

The following paper provides an insight into application of the contemporary heuristic methods to graph coloring problem. Variety of algorithmic solutions for the Graph Coloring Problem (GCP) are discussed and recommendations for their implementation provided. The GCP is the NP-hard problem, aiming at finding the minimum number of colors for vertices in such a way that none of two adjacent vertices are marked with the same color. With the advent of modern processing units metaheuristic approaches to solve GCP were extended to discrete optimization here. To explain the phenomenon of these methods, a thorough survey of AI-based algorithms for GCP is provided, with the main differences between specific techniques pointed out.

Abstract

The paper focuses on two research objectives. First, it aims to critically examine a reductio ad absurdum argument against incompatibilism whose main themes can be found in Peter F. Strawson’s Freedom and Resentment. The doubts raised about the argument are inspired by a thought experiment based on fictitious Ludovico’s technique described in Anthony Burgess’s novel A Clockwork Orange. The second objective consists in outlining a version of the compatibilist stance – the version which is immune to Strawson’s objections against the traditional rendering of compatibilism and enables deeper understanding of various possible interpretations of the controversy between compatibilists and their opponents. The proposed position includes a hypothesis on the function of the attitude of participation and the expressivist explications of the concepts crucial for the practice of ascribing moral responsibility. The important feature of the analyses in question is the central role of the states of mind whose content are plans for reactive moral sentiments.

Abstract

The paper analyses and develops John Rawls’s defence of his theory of justice against the conservative objection that egalitarian conceptions of social justice are an expression of envy. The defence involves the following claims: (1) The content of the difference principle does not match an essential property of envy. (2) The parties in the original position are not motivated by envy. (3) None of the conditions imposed on the original position arise from envy. Next, it is argued that there are reasons to suppose that the parties in the original position would choose a more egalitarian principle of distributive justice than the difference principle. These reasons are grounded in the claim that self respect is the most important primary good and in the fact that the level of economic inequalities is negatively correlated with self respect among the least advantaged members of society. It is shown that even though the content of the more egalitarian principle matches the essential property of envy, the conservative objection remains unjustified.

Abstract

W tekście wskazuję na etyczny kontekst twórczości Ryszarda Wagnera. W skrócie sygnalizuję kwestię relacji wartości estetycznych i etycznych.

Abstract

The article presents the discipline of celebrity studies and the perspectives of applying it to Polish historical research. Intended to be a discussion opener rather than a complete literature overview, it provides readers with basic information on the discipline, indicates potential problems, and explains the beneficial effects of developing research based on terms and definitions in celebrity studies.

Abstract

The aim of the paper is to identify trends in the development of health and active tourism. In order to meet the above mentioned objective, a method of critical analysis of desk research was implemented, mainly a synthetic analysis of relevant scientific publications and reports. Against the background of globalization, the development of tourism is determined by, among others, demographic, economic and technological factors. The microtrends referring to contemporary consumers are of the utmost importance. The lifestyle significantly reflects the need for pro-health services. Health and active tourism are an antidote against the worries of everyday life. That is why the tourism market needs a profiled product consisting of wellness, with particular emphasis on motor recreation, healthy food and the possibility of establishing/maintaining social and/or family relationships. Creating, refreshing or diversifying such a tourist product is not a simple task. It requires the use of expertise and experience of representatives of science and practitioners, taking into account the tourism potential of a given region/country.

Abstract

Abstract In this paper we study a novel approach to the design of a robust switched controller for continuous-time systems described by a novel robust plant model using quadratic stability and multi parameter dependent quadratic stability approaches. In the proposed design procedure with an output feedback a novel quadratic cost function is proposed which allows to obtain different performance dependence on the working points. Finally a numerical examples are investigated.

Abstract

Among the technologies which allow to reduce greenhouse gas emission, mainly carbon dioxide, special attention deserves the idea of 'zero-emission' technology based on boilers working in oxy-combustion technology. In the paper the results of analyses of the influence of changing two quantities, namely oxygen share in oxidant produced in the air separation unit, and oxygen share in oxidant supplied to the furnace chamber on the selected characteristics of a steam boiler including the degree of exhaust gas recirculation, boiler efficiency and adiabatic flame temperature, was examined. Due to the possibility of the integration of boiler model with carbon dioxide capture, separation and storage installation, the subject of the analysis was also to determine composition of the flue gas at the outlet of a moisture condensation installation. Required calculations were made using a model of a supercritical circulating fluidized bed boiler working in oxy-combustion technology, which was built in a commercial software and in-house codes.

Abstract

The paper presents analysis of optimisation results of power system stabilizer (PSS) parameters when taking into account the uncertainty of mathematical model parameters of the power system (PS) elements. The Pareto optimisation was used for optimisation of the system stabilizer parameters. Parameters of five stabilizers of PSS3B type were determined in optimisation process with use of a genetic algorithm with tournament selection. The results obtained were assessed from the point of view of selecting the criterion function. The analysis of influence of the parameter uncertainty on the quality of the results obtained was performed.
