Abstract

Matematyka z jednej strony czerpie inspirację z codzienności, aspirując do jej modelowania w ramach precyzyjnego systemu logicznego, a z drugiej tę codzienność wzbogaca o nowe, często bardzo abstrakcyjne idee, poszerzające wyobraźnię i rozumienie otaczającej nas rzeczywistości.

Abstract

The article discusses the circumstances surrounding the founding of the Association of Polish Writers Abroad (SPPzG) by Dr. Alina Siomkajło in London in 2010, oppositional to the Union of Polish Writers Abroad (ZPPnO), also in Great Britain, which had been active since 1945. The method of qualitative analysis was used to review the anti-communist content, the right-wing magazine.

Abstract

Abstract

The paper examines the most important Italian historical novel and focuses on its principal migration routes, especially concerning main characters. It also examines a variety of representations of border and frontier (also in a metaphorical sense) in the novel.

Abstract

W artykule zastosowano Ingardena pojęcie „systemu względnie izolowanego,” aby sformułować fenomenologię architektury podkreślającą sposób, w jaki granica struktury i otwory w niej definiują „wnętrze” i „zewnętrze” i regulują przepływ między nimi.

Abstract

This article analyzes the subconscious fears and anxieties connected with loneliness, low self-esteem, all kinds of frustrations, a sense of being trapped in a bizarre reality or being pushed to transgress (i.e. to cross the border between life and death, between the human and the animal, or getting exposed to new technologies or forms of religion) in Olga Tokarczuk's Opowiadania bizarne [ Bizarre Stories]. The resulting emotional volatility gives rise to questions about one own's identity and one's place in a world beyond control. At the same time the manifold fears and anxieties impose on one a Manichean, dualistic perception of an incurably weird (bizarre) reality. So in Opowiadania bizarne we are constantly reminded of man's arrogance in his relations with the earth's ecosystem, the destructive nature of his subconscious mind, the dangers of new technologies and the corrosive effects of postsecularism.

Abstract

The subject of many controversies has been both the understanding of the limits of scientific knowledge and the indication of the “boundary” conditions of orders placed for it. In some cases, we are in favor of widening these boundaries in such a way that they can also include religious and quasi-religious beliefs, while in others we are in favor of narrowing them so that knowledge and faith can be clearly distinguished. In these considerations, I cite examples of positions on both issues that have in the past met with both relatively wide acceptance and serious reservations. It is worth taking a closer look at them, because it turns out that in science nothing is decided once and for all, and what seemed to belong to the past sometimes comes back with even greater force. I show this on two examples of contemporary positions on the issue of understanding the limits of scientific knowledge.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The holdings of the Kórnik Library include a book of abstracts of lawsuits concerning the boundaries of estates in Greater Poland in the 15th–17th century, written in Latin. Its presumed author, the otherwise unknown Piotr Biernacki, had the ability to write in both the Latin and the Cyrillic alphabet. This article focuses on the reading and the palaeographic and linguistic analysis of several Latin sentences, one heading and more than 20 margin notes written in the Cyrillic alphabet. The Cyrillic handwriting found in the book is a Russian skoropis used in Ukrainian areas of Poland in the 17th century. When writing the Latin text with the Cyrillic alphabet, the author utilised the Polish language of the time in the reading of Latin. The cryptograms found in the book have a technical/informative nature and do not contribute any significant information to the text. In combination with the fact that the Cyrillic alphabet was not at all used in Greater Poland, the above suggests that the author was playing with the reader, who was thus forced to look for the meaning of the incomprehensible text.

Abstract

In the article, we characterize the current and extremely serious problem of mass migration of people and indicate the necessary political actions that can alleviate it. The problem in question has increasingly dramatic consequences and has now reached proportions requiring decisive action. The basic suggestions are, on the one hand, the need to recognize the social situation in emigrants' homelands and offer these countries well-thought-out assistance, and, on the other hand, arrangements must be made on the part of the countries that are the destination of migration in order to develop a common and uniform policy, which is of special importance in countries of the European Union.

Abstract

This article deals primarily with La quistione polacca, an anthology of historical documents on Poland after the partitions compiled by Giorgio d’Acandia. Ever since its publication in 1916, in Italy this book has remained an important source of information about Poland and manifest proof of reciprocity of the Polish-Italian relations. Its direct effect was to raise the awareness of ‘the Polish question’ among the Italian politicians and to help them make up their minds about the justness of the struggle for Poland’s independence. The article assesses the content of the book and the selection criteria of its texts. It also presents a profile of the author Umberto Zanotti Bianco (Giorgio d’Acandia was a pseudonym), which features his contacts with Attilio Begey and the community of Italian polonophiles, his interest in Polish literature and culture, his worldview, grounded in Christianity, and, last not least, his philanthropic work and political activities.
